Women’s guide to buying a used cars Feel out of your depth when your about to walk into a Used Car showroom or that you may be patronised by the salesman just trying to sell you a pretty colour for a car? Read this guide to get an overview of what you need to buy the car you want without the help of a man!

When looking for used cars it is a good idea to have a price bracket in mind as it can be easy to be swayed by the sales talk, know your limit and stick to it.

Do your research – check online for the best type of vehicle for your needs, model, make, warranties, insurance, options, extras and of course price.

Ask around – get the opinions of friends and family they may be able to recommend a reputable dealer or know some one who is selling their car.

Know your terminology - do you know what V5 or MPG stands for? A V5 is also known a log book and is essentially the history of the car and is a legal requirement to have this up to date. MPG is miles per gallon or the amount of fuel the car consumes, the figures given should only be used as a guide. If you are not sure what the sales person means – ask!

Get a good valuation for your Find Part Exchange, find out how much its worth first online so that you don't get caught by surprise expecting it to be worth thousands. Be prepared to be undercut as dealers often don't want your old part exchange vehicle.

Walk away – do not be afraid to walk away. You may have invested time in a particular car but if you do not feel your car buying experience is how it should be look elsewhere, remember there are other cars out there.
